WhatsApp to stop working on these Android and iOS phones
If you are a WhatsApp user, know that the application will stop working on some versions of Android and iOS. Find out if your smartphone is also on the list.
WhatsApp is the world's most popular instant messaging platform, with 2 billion active users. Introducing features like status, voice calling, video calling, and UPI payments have helped WhatsApp surpass SMS, becoming the primary means of communication for many. It also promises data privacy with end-to-end encryption. To cater to such a large user base, WhatsApp periodically releases updates for newer devices while it stops working on very old devices. WhatsApp has now announced that it will stop supporting older versions of Android and iOS.
WhatsApp to stop working on these phones
According to a report by GizmoChina, WhatsApp has announced that it will soon stop working on Android 5.0 or lower operating system devices. iPhones will also be affected, as they will no longer be compatible with devices running iOS 12 or lower. Devices running the firmware mentioned above will not receive updates, new features, or security improvements. Therefore, you must update your Android phone or iPhone to the latest software version to continue receiving WhatsApp support.
Unsupported iOS version: iOS 12 and earlier
Unsupported Android version: Android OS 5.0 and below
For iPhone users
To check for new updates on your iPhone, go to Settings, tap General, and then tap Software Update. If your device supports the latest firmware, it automatically downloads the update.
For Android users
Android users can head to Settings, then System, then System Updates. Your device will briefly run a check for new updates. Please note that these settings may vary depending on the Operating System your device is running.
What happens if there are no updates?
However, if you are using an older smartphone, your device may not support a newer version of the software. In that case, upgrading to a newer device is the only solution. Several festive sales are going on right now, and buyers can take advantage of huge discounts on new devices.
