WhatsApp Web and Desktop get a new UI for multi-device support

Highlights

The latest WhatsApp beta update brings a new user interface for multi-device compatibility on the messaging platform's desktop and web clients.

WhatsApp is currently working on multi-device support that will allow you to use one account on different devices simultaneously. Now, this feature is limited to WhatsApp Web and its desktop app only. Multi-device support for WhatsApp is in beta, and a new update brings the feature closer to launch.

The latest beta update for WhatsApp, Android 2.21.1.3, brings a new user interface for WhatsApp Web and desktop. The new user interface supports multiple devices and shows "Devices linked" to your WhatsApp account, WABetaInfo reported. As the name suggests, this layout shows the devices your WhatsApp account is currently being used on. You can also check the last active time of each paired device. It will also allow you to link a new device to your WhatsApp account and log out of connected devices.

WABetaInfo notes that this new user interface should start to appear for beta WhatsApp users. It is a partial release, so not all beta users will receive it. Also, this is just a UI update and not necessarily multi-device support. WhatsApp is still working on this, and there is no information on its release date yet. WhatsApp is expected to allow up to four devices for one account with this feature.

At present, WhatsApp can only be used in your web and desktop applications. This also requires that the primary device (phone) have an active internet connection and keep a close distance from the laptop. Multi-device support is said to allow independent use on each connected device.
