Warangal: The Warangal Police Commissioner V Ravinder said that they would approach the Supreme Court on the verdict of Telangana High Court in the case of rape and murder of a nine-month-old baby.

In this case, the Warangal District Sessions Court awarded the accused Polepaka Praveen death sentence on August 8, 2019. The accused approached the High Court challenging the judgment.

The HC Division Bench comprising Chief Justice RS Chauhan and Justice A Abhishek Reddy commuted the death sentence to life imprisonment. On Monday, CP V Ravinder said that the Warangal police would file a special leave petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court over HC judgment.

The accused Praveen abducted a nine-month-old infant, while she was sleeping beside her mother on the terrace. He then raped and killed her. This horrific incident happened on June 19 this year in Hanamakonda. The police concluded the case within 51 days with the First Additional District/POCSO Special Court Judge K Jaya Kumar declaring death sentence to Praveen.
