Hyderabad: In yet another crime against minors, a six-year-old was allegedly raped and killed near AR Homes of Turkapally under Alwal police station limits on Thursday.
Within 24 hours of the tragic incident, the police solved the case and apprehended one Rajesh Kumar (20), native of West Champaran in Bihar. According to the police, the accused in an inebriated state kidnapped the girl and took her to a secluded place and raped her before killing the minor.
The mutilated body of the minor was found dumped in the bushes around 10 pm on Thursday. The minor was a daughter of a daily wage earner.
According to Balanagar zone, Deputy Commissioner of Police P V Padmaja, when the girl went missing from the locality while playing Holi, the family and neighbours launched a search but could not find her.
The family immediately lodged a complaint following which a missing person case was registered at Alwal police station.
During investigation, when the police questioned one neighbour Dharmendra Singh, he revealed that he organised a Holi party at his house and his brother-in-law Roshan along with the accused Rajesh Kumar and others attended the party.
He told the police that Rajesh Kumar was missing from the party between 3 pm and 4:30 pm.
Connecting the dots, the police apprehended the accused on Friday morning from his room at Krishna Nagar Colony in Bollaram and on interrogation he confessed that he committed the crime.
The accused came to Hyderabad two months back and joined Roshan, who is his relative and belonging from the same village. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Child against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, has been registered against the accused.
State Balala Hakkula Sangham (BHS) representative said it is noted that 42 child sexual assault incidents have taken place in and around Hyderabad city from February 2019 to till date. He demanded that PD Act be invoked against the accused.
The also demanded capital punishment for the accused and that the government should pay compensation to the victim's family under the provisions of POCSO Act.
