12 farm labourers killed in road mishap
At least 12 persons died and four others were injured in a road accident in Mahbubnagar district on Sunday.
Mahbubnagar: At least 12 persons died and four others were injured in a road accident in Mahbubnagar district on Sunday.
The mishap occurred when the three-wheeler in which 16 persons were travelling was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry, the police said.
The injured were taken to the SVS Medical College Hospital. A pal of gloom descended on Kottapally village under Midjil mandal in the district when the news of tragic death of 12 farmworkers trickled in.
A total of 16 persons, most of them women, were going back to their homes at Kottaplly village in an auto-rickshaw when the three-wheeler collided head-on with a lorry.
The lorry was going to Kodad from Jadcherla on the National Highway 167 when the accident happened.
The lorry hit the overloaded auto from behind killing 12 people on the spot, while 3 severely injured persons were immediately shifted to SVS Medical College Hospital in Mahbubnagar for treatment.
The police registered a case.Investigation is on. The deceased were identified as Chennamma (50), Shivaleela(55), Madigu Venkatamma (45), M. Chandramma (47), Venkatamma (45), Shivaji (45), Chandi (35)Bichani Mudavath (40), Sakru naik (28), Yellamma (45), K. Balamani (45) and C Salamma (34).
