45 Basti Dawakhanas to be opened on May 22 in Hyderabad

Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Wednesday said that around 45 basti dawakhanas will be opened on May 22 in Hyderabad.

"There are around 123 basti dawakhanas in Greater Hyderabad limits providing treatment to at least 10,000 people every day," the minister said. And the new dawakhanas are being set up at Hyderabad (22), Medchal (15), Rangareddy (5) and Sangareddy (3).

With the new clinics, the medical services will be expanded to 4,000 more people. The basti dawakhanas comprises of a doctor, a nurse and a helper.

Basti Dawakhanas are set up by the Telangana government two years ago to reduce the medical expenses for the poor. The clinics which run six days a week from 9 am to 4 pm are being jointly managed by the National Health Mission and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

Each clinic comprises of three rooms – a waiting hall, a pharmacy and an examination room.
