Suryapet: Under the Annapurna Scheme, Rs 5 meals have been filling the stomachs of hungry labourers, students and passersby in and around Suryapet. Lunch centres have become a blessing to daily labourers from in and surrounding villages of Suryapet as they had to spend Rs 60 to Rs 100 daily on lunch.

The Rs 5 meals Annapurna Centres were located at municipal office compound and at new agriculture market. People expressed pleasure over the quality and quantity of rice and curries being provided for lunch.

As per official information, around 1,000 to 1,500 people avail the Rs 5 lunch service in the town. Students, unemployed youth and labourers thanked Energy Minister GJagadish Reddy, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao for their initiation to set up Rs 5 lunch centres in Suryapet town.

According to sources, on recommendations of Minister Jagadish Reddy, the State government is planning to setup similar Rs 5 lunch centres across erstwhile Nalgonda district.
