Jagtial: District unit members of Council for Civil Rights (CCR) on Wednesday demanded the government to issue ration cards, which are in pending for the last four years. After getting permission from the officials of the District Civil Supply Office, the members along with the media had inspected the office to find out the number of applications for ration cards is in pending at the Collectorate in Jagtial on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, CCR members said CCR representative Anugandula Prakash had submitted a request to the District Civil Supply Office (DCSO) on August 9, 2019 under the Right to Information Act, 2005, to know the details of applications for ration cards that are in pending village-wise and mandal-wise in Jagtial district.

The officials of DCSO gave permission to the CCR members for inspection on November 13, 2019 and mentioned that about 8,348 ration cards are in pending. To confirm the details, the members of CCR had inspected the DCSO office under section 2(J) (I)-RTI,2005 Act and noticed the same.

If the people, who are below poverty level, apply for a ration card through Mee Seva centres, it is the responsibility of the officials concerned either to sanction it or refuse the application within 30 days depending on their eligibility. But the officials kept the applications in pending for the past four years, they alleged. Many eligible poor people are suffering a lot living under miserable conditions with as many as 8,348 ration cards kept in pending by the officials of DCSO, they added. The members demanded the government to take immediate steps for issuing ration cards to all the eligible poor people.

CCR district unit president Yellandula Venu Gopal, vice-president Yellandula Swamy and district secretary Chigurupalli Satish were present along with the media personnel in the inspection.
