Markook (Siddipet district): The inauguration of the Kondapochamma Sagar reservoir not only brings Godavari waters to Siddipet but also seems to have inspired the government to announce a special gift to farmers in about a week. The government is finalising modalities by analysing the availability of financial resources and this, according to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, will come as a big surprise to the nation.

Soon after inaugurating the project, KCR said that the people who had given their lands for the project would be provided employment in the SEZ for food processing units that would come up in the district. KCR also announced that a new Gajwel model town would be developed in the Assembly constituency.

This project will help to scale up the total crop production at Rs 1 lakh crore. This, the Chief Minister said, would be yet another step in turning Telangana into a state which would achieve Golden Harvest (Pasidi Pantalu). It requires 4800 MW power to lift the water into the reservoirs from river Godavari and the government will bear all the expenses for power supply.

Before the inauguration of the project, KCR and his wife Shobha performed Chandi Yagam at Kondapochamma temple and Sudhrshan Yagam at Markook Pumphouse in the early morning. Under the project, Telangana will utilise 535 TMC of Godavari water and the reservoir's capacity is 165 TMC, which includes Mallanna Sagar (50 TMC) and Konda Pochamma Sagar (15 TMC).

Thanking the farmers, who had given the land for the construction of the reservoir, the Chief Minister said entire Telangana would be indebted to all the displaced families.
