A women devotee suffered burns during a fire-walking ceremony at Narkatpally Cheruvu Gattu Brahmotsavam in Nalgonda on Tuesday. The annual celebration was traditionally performed on Tuesday ahead of Sivarathri. The men and women perform this ritual in which devotees walk barefoot across hot coals as a form of penance or thanksgiving in honour of the goddesses.

The public and the police who witnessed the incident, which took place in the early hours on Tuesday have taken the woman devotee who fell into the fire pit to hospital.

It is reported that the woman ran across the 2m-long pit, then stumbled and fell onto the coals just before reaching the end. However, she was dragged out by fellow walkers and was taken to the hospital immediately.
