Hyderabad: Fitness and transfer of ownership of vehicles (transport type) services have come to a grinding halt at the RTA offices as the authorities have made it mandatory for the transport vehicle owners to submit Aadhaar card for the transaction.

According to the vehicle owners, the authorities in the department were demanding Aadhaar card for the services like fitness and transfer of ownership.

The vehicle owners said the RTA offices have made Aadhaar mandatory from June 28 onwards. The motorists who have taken vehicles on finance are facing the heat as they could not get the Aadhaar of the old seller.

All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) organising secretary B Krishnamurthy said about 5,200 auto rickshaws were registered in the year 2002 in Rangareddy district and the owners changed one after the other and now when the auto rickshaws came to the RTA offices for fitness and permit, authorities are demanding Aadhaar card of the owners who registered their vehicle in 2002.

Krishnamurthy said most of the buyers have sold their vehicles to the financers or others and it would be difficult for them to get Aadhaar card of the old seller.

"The officials are saying that they would take up registration only if there is Aadhaar card of the original buyer otherwise they will not be giving permit," said Krishnamurthy.

The Aadhaar card was earlier mandatory only for driving licenses including the learning and permanent and other documents like ration card, passport, driving license etc were required for other 55 transactions.

The officials have now made it mandatory for the vehicle owners to submit Aadhaar for fitness and transfer of ownership from June 28.

Telangana Auto and Motor Welfare Union general secretary M Dayanand demanded that the government issue clarification on the Aadhaar card. "From where can we bring the old seller?

The driving license is also a document and it has been issued by the transport department and the authorities can allow this document," said Dayanand. The application does not get completed unless Aadhaar card number does not match with the old vehicle owner, he added.

However, Joint Transport Commissioner C Ramesh said the vehicle owners facing difficulties in producing the Aadhaar card, they can approach the concerned RTO for getting relaxation.
