Wanaparthy: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials of Wanaparthy district caught two officials of Mines and Geology department red-handedly when the duo was accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a complainant, on Friday.
According to ACB DSP Madhusudhan Reddy, they had received a complaint from Deelipa Chary, who was asked to pay a bribe of Rs 1.4 lakh, for submitting a favourable report against their firm to the Directorate of Mines and Geology in Hyderabad for granting mining permission.
Earlier, the complainant had already paid Rs 1 lakh to the two officials, Assistant Director T Samuel Jacob and Royalty Inspector Sairam, and later when the officials further pressurised him to pay the remaining balance of Rs 40,000, he lodged a complaint with the ACB, who laid a trap to arrest the corrupt officials.
As per the plan, the ACB officials applied chemical powder to the amount that was being given as bribe money to the officials and later, raided the office of the Mines and Geology department at around 2 pm and nabbed both the officials red-handedly. The ACB officials arrested the two officials and produced them before the special judge, who had sent them to judicial remand.
