Khammam: Telangana Formation Day was celebrated in a spirited manner and rich tributes were paid to the Statehood martyrs in the erstwhile Khammam district on Tuesday. Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar hoisted the national flag at Khammam district Collectorate while Government Whip Rega Kantha Rao hoisted the national flag at Telangana Martyrs Memorial in Kothagudem.

Speaking after hoisting the flag, Minister Ajay stated the aspirations of Telangana statehood were fulfilled due to the committed efforts by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for the past six years for the all-round development of Telangana. The government took all measures in taking the fruits of welfare and development programmes to the needy despite tough conditions prevailed during the past three months following the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic, he said.

Ajay stressed on the need of collective efforts by all the elected members and officials to address public issues, adding that all the legislators in the erstwhile Khammam district would collectively strive for the development of the district.

During the past three years Telangana has made impressive progress in executing irrigation projects such as Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project and others. The ongoing Sita Rama Lift Irrigation Project (SRLIP) in the district would soon be completed, he assured. The Minister reminded that three lakh metric tonnes of paddy and 1.5 lakh metric tonnes of maize was procured in the district. District Collector RV Karnan and Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqbal led the official mechanism in an effective manner and earned reputation to the district, he pointed out.

Government Whip Kantha Rao in his address at Kothagudem highlighted the progress Telangana has made in terms of irrigation projects. He said it was planned to lift 540 to 600 TMCs of water from rivers in the

State to irrigate around 45 lakh acres for two crops in a year. Works related to Sitamma Sagar multi-purpose project planned at Dummugudem in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district with Rs 13,058 crores would soon be launched. The process of calling tenders was over and SRLIP works going on at fast pace, he informed. He appreciated District Collector MV Reddy for measures launched to effectively contain the spread of coronavirus and thus district was declared green zone.
