Adilabad: Everyone should be aware of POCSO Act

Adilabad: Adilabad District Collector Sikta Patnaik said everyone should be aware of the POCSO Act, which came into force in 2012.

After inaugurating orientation programme for hostel welfare officers at BC Study Circle here on Monday, the Collector said not only hostel welfare officers, but every employee working in government hostels, schools and government offices should know the details of POCSO Act. She suggested that every employee and general public must wear mask and follow social distance in view of corona pandemic.

Sakhi Centre administrator Yashoda suggested a law should be brought to protect girls and women. She explained that those who sexually assaults, incites and carry out indecent assaults would be sentenced to seven years of imprisonment under the law. Awareness programmes and publicity campaigns were being conducted to explain the POCSO Act to everyone. A backward welfare officer, Ashanna said that they are conducting awareness programmes on POCSO Act for welfare officers of hostels.
