Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President & MP Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Thursday described the criticism by Union Home Minister Amit Shah of the process adopted for the creation of Telangana State as unwarranted.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, Uttam Kumar Reddy condemned Amit Shah's remarks wherein he stated that Telangana State was created by closing down the doors of Parliament. "It is a normal process that the doors of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are closed whenever Bills are passed through voting," he said adding that Telangana was formed after the then Congress-led UPA Government followed a due process and held wider consultations with all political parties and other stakeholders. He said Telangana was the result of a broader consensus among political parties and groups. Except for CPI (M) and MIM, all other parties had supported the formation of Telangana. However, Prime Minister Narender Modi and Amit Shah repeatedly criticised the process adopted for AP's bifurcation on multiple occasions. Does it mean that they disapprove the formation of Telangana State?" he asked.

"It is highly regrettable that TRS MPs remained silent when Amit Shah made those controversial remarks in the Parliament," he said. He also questioned the silence of Telangana BJP leaders on the issue.

Uttam Kumar Reddy also announced that the Congress party's flag hoisting programme in municipalities has been extended till August 19. He appealed to the party cadre to organise the "Inti Intiki Congress, Vaada Vaadalu Congress Jhanda" programme in all municipalities at a massive scale across Telangana State. He claimed that the programme has been a huge success so far and urged the party leaders to conduct in left-out areas. He also asked them to organise 75th birth anniversary celebrations of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at a grand scale on August 20.

Earlier, Uttam Kumar Reddy held a meeting with senior leaders to review preparations for municipal elections. Strongly condemning Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for slashing the reservation percentage for Backward Classes in municipal elections, he directed the party cadre to expose the anti-BC face of TRS Government before people. He reiterated that the Congress party would give 50% of tickets in municipal elections to BCs and Muslims. He demanded that BCs should be given reservation in proportionate to their population. He claimed that the Congress was quite strong and had the potential to win a majority of seats in the next municipal elections.

CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, AICC Secretaries Bose Raju, Saleem Ahmed and Vamshichand Reddy, TPCC Working Presidents Ponnam Prabhakar and Kusum Kumar, DCC Presidents and other important leaders participated in the review meeting.
