Banned currency of Rs 9 lakh seized in Suryapet, one held

A person was arrested on Friday after being caught with Rs 9.95 lakh in demonetized currency from him.

P Samuel (27), a native of Vanasthalipuram was caught by the Kodad police with demonetized currency during a vehicle check in the outskirts of Kodad and found 995 currency notes in the denominations of banned Rs 1,000 notes.

However, the arrested said that the currency was given to him by his friend Kapil, a native of Khammam and offered him Rs 50,000 to exchange the currency in new notes.

The police also registered a case against Kapil and the other person at Gudubanda.
