Mahbubnagar: The efforts of local leaders to irrigate 15,000 acres of land under Maddigattu village of Bhootpur mandal was now bearing fruits, as local leader and Bhootpur Mandal Parishad President (MPP) Kadire Shekar along with the support of State government achieved the gigantic feat of bringing Krishna waters to the Maddikhan lake in the Maddigattu village of Bhootpur mandal in Devarkadra constituency in Mahbubnagar district.
Recently, Minister for Excise, Prohibition and Tourism and Devarkadra MLA Srinivas Goud along with Bhootpur MPP Kadire Sekhar Reddy inaugurated the Maddikhan lake and filled the lake with the Krishna water and also released fish in the lake.
Reportedly, the efforts of local MPP Kadire Shekar in making this project a grand success was commended. "I had a dream of making my village irrigate lands with the Krishna River. After formation of Telangana, I was convinced that I can do it and met with all the leaders in the government taking my proposal to fill the Maddikhan Lake with the Krishna waters.
Though initially nobody took my idea seriously, however with the support of local farmers in the village, I convinced the Devarkadra MLA and took the proposal to Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy and then even met with the then Irrigation Minister Harish Rao and could get a sanction of Rs 103 crore for linking the canal from Maganoor to Maddikhan lake," Kadire Sekhar said.
Overcoming all odds of land acquisition, which delayed the project for more than one year, finally, the farmers of Maddigattu village under Bhootpur mandal are happy lot as they can now irrigate more than 15,000 acres of land.
"It is a dream come true for us. We are proud to have a great leader from our village who has spent his own money and paid it to the farmers for acquiring land on behalf of the government.
With the Maddikhan Lake brimming with Krishna water, our dreams have come true. Now we need not migrate to other cities for work as we are already having lot of work available in our own village," said the villagers of Maddigattu village.
To help speed up the canal works, Kadire Sekhar reportedly spent Rs 70 lakh from his own pocket while Devarkadra MLA Ala Venkateshwara Reddy had offered to provide the trucks free of cost during the canal works.
Overall, the efforts of local leader from Bhootpur, who had a committed and determined resolve to get Krishna waters to their village, could achieve success and today they are able to irrigate more than 15,000 acres under the Maddikha Lake. The bore wells which were dried up earlier have also recharged while the fishermen are also doing brisk business and making a comfortable livelihood.
