BJP to go full steam ahead with membership drive across State
Saffron party to focus on 10,000 polling booths during the ongoing membership drive
Hyderabad: In a systematic move to intensify its membership drive Telangana BJP is all set to focus on about 10,000 polling booths in the State as part of its 'Vistarak Saptah'.
The party leadership hopes that the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the third week of this August would further galvanise its efforts to reach out to people to achieve its target of enrolling 36 lakh members into the party.
Speaking to The Hans India, a party leader said out of 32,000 polling booths in the State the party has identified 10,000 polling booths where it had got four to five votes during the last Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. "Now the task is to enrol 50 members into the party in all such booths.
In turn, those enrolling 50 members in each of the booths will become active members of the party. They are eligible to hold any of the party posts from village to the State level," he said.
'For this, about 7,000 party leaders and active members from village to state-level, including myself would go from the street to street and village to village to invite people to join the party, said party national general secretary P Muralidhar Rao.
During the drive, the main agenda is to explain the efforts being taken by the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to cover different sections of people under the welfare measures as well as rolling out development programmes.
For this, all the 32,000 polling booths have been classified into A, B and C categories.
The 'A' category booths are those in which the party had got 100 or more votes during the last Assembly and Lok Sabha-2019 elections. Similarly, the 'B' category booths are those where the the party had got more than 20 to 50 votes and the 'C' category booths are those where the party had got less than 10 votes.
Accordingly, now the task is to increase the number of party members in the 10,000 polling booths falling under 'C' category. Besides, upgrading the 'B' category booths to the 'A' category and 'A' category to that of 'A-plus', the sources added.
Giving more details on the membership drive party national executive member Nallu Indrasena Reddy said, "We are neither luring nor enticing people with an insurance policy rider with the party membership like TRS. We want people from all walks of life and every section of society to join voluntarily to strengthen the party," he said.
Further, those enrolling 50 or more members will become active members of the party. They are eligible to hold any position in the party from the village to the State level."Some of the active members will be handed over the membership card by the party chief Amit Shah during his visit tentatively scheduled in the third week of this month," the sources said..
The State BJP president Dr K Laxman said, "Family rule and corruption are the two key issues on which the party will be taking on the ruling party in the State."
