BJP wows to expose Congress on Dalit reservation issue
Launching a scathing attack on Congress party, Telangana BJP State president Dr K Laxman alleged that the party is hatching another conspiracy after a judgement of Supreme Court on SC/ST reservation.
Hyderabad: Launching a scathing attack on Congress party, Telangana BJP State president Dr K Laxman alleged that the party is hatching another conspiracy after a judgement of Supreme Court on SC/ST reservation.
Addressing the media here on Thursday, he said after failing to get people's support on the issue of CAA, NRC and NPR, the Congress party is now hatching another conspiracy to mislead the people and levelling baseless allegations on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government at the Centre.
Ridiculing the proposed dharna of the State Congress president Uttam Kumar Reddy to tell the people that Modi government is against Dalits, Dr Laxman said "it was the Congress party which always deceived Dalits and poor while in power for decades and used them as a vote bank for its dynasty rule.
He said that the Supreme Court has given its verdict based on the arguments put forth by the Uttarakhand Congress government in 2012. It was the Congress which is solely responsible for it. The Congress government in Uttarakhand had decided to fill up government posts in the Public Works department without providing reservation to SCs and STs.
However, the same was challenged by the Dalit associations in the State High Court. The Uttarakhand High Court directed the State government to provide quota to these classes.
But, same Congress government in Uttarakhand had gone to the Supreme Court and argued quoting Articles that constitution is merely enabling provisions and there is no fundamental right to claim reservation. Against this backdrop that the SC agreed and reversed the High Court order, he added.
It was on the basis of arguments of Congress government, Supreme Court has ruled that states are not bound to provide quota for SC, ST or OBCs in government jobs and there is no fundamental right to claim reservation in promotions. However, Congress party and other opposition parties are now playing a "blame game" as they failed to get the support of people on CAA and NRC, he added.
Congress leaders wanted to wash their hands off by just levelling allegations and blaming that the Modi government is responsible for the apex court judgement for the mistakes committed by their (Congress) party, Dr Laxman said.
Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to the upliftment of SC/ST communities and social justice, the BJP State chief said that the party would chalk out a programme to expose Congress party's mistake and create awareness among Dalits on the Supreme Court judgement on the reservation.
