Hyderabad: The South Central Railway is according highest priority to serve the valued passengers with upgraded facilities at important railway stations.

Twin cities of Hyderabad have three terminal Railway stations, Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Kacheguda which are handling 465 trains to serve 2.8 lakh passengers on an average per day. All the three stations have been saturated in terms capacity to handle train operations and heavily congested during the peak hours.

In order to ease the congestion as well as extension of services to newly developed west side of the city, Lingampalli station has been provided with terminal station facilities with an expenditure of around Rs 20 crores and further expansion works are in progress at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crores.

Charlapalli Railway station has been identified for developing as a new and alternate coaching terminal. It is a convenient location for the east side city of Hyderabad which is developing with rapid pace. Several infrastructural works including provision of passenger amenities have been sanctioned by Railway Board with an estimated cost of Rs 221 crores at Charlapalli Railway station. Charlapalli station falls under MMTS phase - II project in the section between Moulali - Ghatkesar, the station is also very near to Outer Ring Road.

As a part of execution of this project, several developmental works are in progress at Charlapalli station which includes Widening of existing Island platform; New Platform along with new line for MMTS trains; 2 Cover over Platforms (COP) on new Platforms and 1 COP on existing Platform; Extension of Foot over Bridge for new High level platforms; Water pedestals on both the new platforms and island platform and lighting arrangements on new and island platforms. Tenders have been floated and finalised for Phase-I works of Charlapalli terminal.

The contract has been awarded and physical works will be started shortly. For Phase - II works, tenders have been floated and the same are in finalisation stage. Works under progress in Phase - I with the estimated cost of Rs 55 Crores include 2 Subways including 3 Ramps & 6 Staircases; Earth Work; Bridge Works for 5 Bridges; 2 High level Island platforms; Rising & Extension of existing platform; Provision of shunting neck; Watering arrangements on all platforms; Over Head Water Tank with 4 lakh litres capacity; Provision of Sewerage lines; Provision of concrete Apron; Other Engineering works to be executed in Phase - II with estimated cost of Rs 63 crores; New Station building to cater additional passenger amenities and service buildings; Improvement in circulating area ; CC Approach Road; Electrical Substation; Maintenance Shed ( IOH shed); 2 Foot Over Bridges (FOB); 5 Escalators; 9 Lifts (3 for Subway & 6 for FOBs); Construction of 4 pit lines for train maintenance; Cover Over Platforms; Parcel Shed and Bio Toilets shed.
