Vikarabad: District Collector Ayesha Masrat Khanam said all the homemakers should segregate dry and wet waste and that municipal trolleys would pick up from homes.

She said that wet waste would be converted into manure and dry waste would be sent for recycling. She convened a meeting about creating awareness on dry and wet waste with self-help groups, here on Thursday.

Elaborating the need of health and hygiene, the collector explained them about the benefits of segregating the waste. She asked them to create awareness on the waste segregation among house makers.

The collector assured them to provide training for manufacturing hand bags and to replace plastic bags. And stall will also be provided for the DWCRA women to sell their products, she said.

The collector directed the municipal commissioner to take necessary steps to ensure that hotels, shopping malls and other business establishments also follow the segregation of waste.

Municipal Commissioner Bhogeswarlu, MEPMA town co-ordinator Venkatesham, MEPMA district co-ordinator Ravikumar and municipal staff were present on the occasion.
