Hyderabad: Several Congress leaders were taken into custody when they tried to take out a rally from Gandhi Bhavan to Raj Bhavan to submit a representation to Governor Tamilisai Sounderarajan on Friday. In a minor tussle between the party workers and police, one party worker sustained injuries.

The rally was part of the call given by All India Congress Committee (AICC) to hold protest demonstrations opposing the bad economic policies of the Central government.

Leaders K Jana Reddy, RC Khuntia, Bose Raju, Dasoju Sravan and Anjan Kumar Yadav gathered at Gandhi Bhavan in the morning and tried to take out a rally.

They tried to surge ahead even though the police were trying to obstruct them from moving forward. In the scuffle with the police a worker of the party Venkatesh was injured and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The Congress leaders were arrested at Nampally crossroad and were taken to Begum Bazar police station. Later, the Congress leaders went to Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum to the Governor.

State party in-charge RC Khuntia, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, former Minister K Jana Reddy, former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav and others met the Governor and submitted a memorandum.

Speaking on the occasion, Khuntia alleged that the country was on the verge of economic collapse.

He alleged that the BJP-led NDA government was privatising all the organisations established by first Prime Minister late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

He also alleged that the BJP had not implemented even a single promise made to the people after coming to power for the second consecutive term. Khuntia said the demonetisation decision of the Centre had led to the present economic crisis in the country.

CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka alleged that the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi were causing a lot of damage to the country.

He said that the country had lost jobs and added that the GDP had dropped below 3 per cent.
