Hyderabad: Malkajgiri Lok Sabha, the largest constituency in the entire country in terms of voters totalling 31 lakh, is set for a triangular fight among the three main parties-TRS, Congress and BJP.
Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency comprises Medchal, Kukatpally, Secunderabad cantonment, Malkajgiri, Uppal, Qutbullapur and LB Nagar. Congress has fielded its working president A Revanth Reddy as the party candidate, while BJP zeroed in on seasoned politician and MLC N Ramachander Rao.
Interestingly, both of them contested in the recent Assembly elections, Revanth from Kodangal segment and Ramachander Rao from Malkajgiri, but TRS candidates got better of them in both the constituencies.
Both national parties have roped in their experienced leaders aiming to wrest the seat held by the TRS. Ch Malla Reddy won the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Malkajgiri on TDP ticket, but later he shifted his loyalties to the TRS. His son-in-law and educationist Marri Rajashekar Reddy has been selected by TRS as its party nominee to take on bigwigs from the Congress and BJP.
Ch Malla Reddy won the 2014 election by nearly 30,000 votes over TRS candidate Mynampally Hanumanth Rao. Interestingly, both contested in the recent Assembly elections from Medchal and Malkajgiri segments respectively and emerged victorious.
The icing on the cake was a berth in K Chandrashekar Rao cabinet for Malla Reddy.
Marri Rajashekar Reddy, who is holding either chairman or vice-chairman or director posts in three top engineering colleges in the city, has forayed into politics for the first time. He is upbeat about his winning chances in April 11 election.
Rajashekar Reddy, a resident of Bowenpally, said he is a local and knows in and out of all issues concerning Malkajgiri Lok Sabha. According to him, Revanth Reddy is a political tourist who has no thorough knowledge of the constituency or its issues.
Neither Narendra Modi nor Rahul Gandhi, who both sit in New Delhi, will show concern about Malkajgiri problems and it is TRS only with the support of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao that will highlight and solve issues and work for the development of the constituency.
Ensuring reopening of closed roads in Secunderabad Cantonment, pending Military lands issue, widening of roads in the whole constituency etc are some of the issues in his priorities list.
From the day his name has been announced by the high command, Congress candidate Revanth Reddy has been reaching out to party ranks in the seven Assembly segments and holding meetings to seek their support.
He is reiterating at the public meetings that Rahul Gandhi is all set to become the next Prime Minister and hence it is imperative that people support Congress candidates in the April 11 election.
Making Malkajgiri as the number one constituency in the entire country, making it a smart city with Centre approved master plan, resolving Cantonment roads issues in six months etc are in the priorities list of Revanth Reddy if he gets the public mandate.
BJP candidate N Ramachander Rao, on the other hand, is confident of his winning chances though TRS and Congress candidates are hogging the limelight. He said the people had already decided to give another term for Narendra Modi at the Centre and the coming Lok Sabha elections would witness overwhelming support to BJP across the country, including Telangana State.
The recent Assembly results in Telangana State are not a factor at all and unlikely to influence the Lok Sabha polls, he felt.
Resolving closed roads in Cantonment and finding a permanent solution, improving the condition of roads, traffic management, rejuvenation of many lakes, addressing drinking water and waterlogging issues in low lying areas etc. are on top of his agenda if elected as Malkajgiri MP.
