Death of coronavirus patient in Hyderabad triggers controversy, Minister Eatala explains

Hyderabad: Death of a middle-aged man who succumbed to coronavirus has triggered controversy after his wife Madhavi took to twitter reporting her husband's missing.

The man identified as Madhusudan was admitted to King Koti hospital on April 27 and was shifted to Gandhi Hospital on April 30 after he tested positive for coronavirus. Later, all his family members were also shifted to an isolation ward. However, Madhusudan who was suffering from other health issues died on May 1.

The police were informed about Madhusudan's death and the cremated was completed by the GHMC as per the protocol, said Health minister Eatala Rajender. The minister said that they could not keep the body in the freezer nor perform the last rites as it is infected by the virus and all his family members were in the hospital. Also, it is the second death in the family in a span of two days and the news might leave them in shock. Considering all these things, the cremation was done after informing their close relatives.

The minister went on to say that it was the second death in their family as Madhusudan's father Eshwaraiah died two days before his son. Eshwaraiah admitted to hospital on April 29 and died on April 30. Immediately his wife, children and grandchildren and five other close relatives, who were primary contacts, were traced and tested. And all of them tested positive of the virus.

He also said that it is not right to blame the government which is putting all efforts to provide treatment to the patients and contain the virus.
