Khammam: An innovative 'Dharani Deeksha' was held on United Nations (UN) Day that marks the anniversary of coming into force of UN Charter in 1945, in Khammam on Thursday.

The founder and members of Vibrants of Kalam, NGO staged a Deeksha at SR&BGNR College campus in Khammam. The NGO founder Vijay Kalam and six others identified as T Sudhir, L Hemalatha, S K Sadiq Pasha, V Bhasker, Saichand and Srikanth half-buried themselves to symbolise seven continents.

Speaking to the press NGO Founder Vijay said the UN Day was an important day and Dharani Deeksha was held to highlight the need of environmental protection with the theme 'Save earth, save future generations.'

He called upon the public to pay attention to the increasing environmental degradation and take remedial measures. Vibrants of Kalam has been striving to create awareness among the society regarding the subject, he said.

The college principal Venkateswar Reddy administered a pledge on environmental protection and appealed to the students to avoid plastic use, plant saplings and create awareness among public on causes of environmental pollution. Telangana Noor Basha Sangham leader Shaik Shakina, Telangana Jagruthi leader T Shobarani, and others were also present.
