Defensive response to cybercrime wont be effective : G Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy on Monday said for long the response of the police in handling the cybercrimes has been defensive. He was addressing after inaugurating the National Cyber Research Innovation and Capacity Building Centre (NCRICBC) here on Monday.

He said defensive responses would not be effective as technology changes very fast and tech-savvy criminals exploit the dynamic nature of technology to their advantage.

He said the NCRICBC at the Central Detective Training Institute (CDTI), Hyderabad is one of the seven verticals under Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C). The centre highlights the growing relevance of continuous research and innovation and preparedness of the country to fight against cybercrime.

The Union Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highlighted on several occasions that, "while cyber-space is a source of great opportunity, cybersecurity has become a major concern."

Against this backdrop, a dedicated division was created in October 2017 under the Ministry of Home Affairs, for addressing the cybersecurity threat in the country.
