Despite efforts, pass percentage drops in Khammam, Kothagudem
Even as girl students have topped the Intermediate examinations in erstwhile Khammam district, the lower pass percentage has highlighted the need for extra efforts to improve the quality of education.

The pass percentage has declined in Khammam district while it remained the same in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district. Gurukul junior colleges in Kothagudem failed to do well, while in Khammam the Gurukul colleges did well.
Khammam district which stood at third place in Intermediate second year results fell to fourth place this year. The same was the case with vocational courses where the district which stood at second place last year fell to fourth place.
According to available statistics with the district officials, as many as 14,317 students have appeared for second year examinations in general and vocational categories. Of them 5,885 students were able to clear the exams registering the pass percentage of 69.
Nonetheless, the girls have offered a relief as the pass percentage of girl students was 75, while it was 61 for boys.
Around 6,689 boys appeared for second year exams and of them 4,142 cleared. And of the 7,628 girls appeared for the exams, 5,743 cleared the exams.
In Kothagudem, a total of 14,786 students appeared for the second year examinations in general and vocational categories. Of the total students, 9,155 have passed the exams resulting in an average pass percentage of 61.9.
The district which was at seventh place last year remained there this year as well.
The girls have fared better in terms of overall pass percentage as 5,772 students have passed the exams of the 8,832 students appeared. The boys pass percentage was 61.9 while it was 65 for girls.
With regard to Gurukul colleges the pass percentage dropped to 78.41 this year from the last years percentage of 82.67.
A total of 857 students appeared for second year inter exams and of them 672 cleared.
However, in Khammam, the Gurukul students did well. Girls Residential Junior College in Khammam and at Kallur achieved cent per cent results in first year and second year examinations respectively.
An intermediate MPC second year student of Boys Residential Junior College, Dammapet in Kothagudem, B Krishna stood first among the Gurukul colleges by scoring 971 marks out of 1,000, informed the officials.
