District reels under severe heatwave in Kothagudem

Kothagudem: The increasing mercury levels are making the lives of people miserable in the district. With the temperatures soaring at 43 degrees Celsius for the last one week, the people are remaining indoors and venturing only after 4 in the evening. Further, a curfew like situation is prevailing in the main towns and roads with many people remaining indoors for the most part of the day.

Areas like Kothagudem, Yellandhu, Manuguru, Palvoncha and Bhadrachalam seems to be worst hit with temperatures going past 43 degree Celsius. Even the busy roads at railway stations, bus stands and market centres have been witnessing less rush. Even those who are venturing out are taking all precautions and covering themselves to avoid sunstroke.

Meanwhile, the municipalities of Kothagudem, Manuguru, Palvoncha and Yellandhu have arranged the supply of drinking water points at the main centres. In Bhadrachalam, gram panchayat officials also arranged the free drinking water supply points in and around the town.

The Bhadrachalam temple authorities also made special arrangements for the distribution of buttermilk, cold water and coir mats for the devotees. The Singareni Collieries Company Limited also made all the necessary arrangements like keeping in stock the buttermilk, water and ORS packets at its opencast mines to protect their staff from the soaring temperatures.
