Rangareddy: Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy said on Wednesday that the Pattana Pragathi programme should continue for a long time to maintain cleanliness in the towns. She was the chief guest at the launching programme of 22 Swachh autos, held at Mirpet Municipal Corporation on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that every household should segregate wet and dry waste and hand it over to the Swachh vehicles. Chief Minister KCR had taken a great initiative for urban development to spruce up towns and cities in a swift manner, she said. She appreciated the municipality for launching 22 autos for garbage collection.

The minister called up the DWCRA and colony associations of Mirpet to turn the municipality a garbage-free corporation, like those of Sircilla and Siddipet. She urged people to plant at least five saplings in each house. She advised corporators to maintain the programme for five-year rather than just a 10-day process.

She said that the Pattana Pragathi programme in the district had been successful. KCR had taken over the responsibility of developing villages through 'Palle Pragath' and now launched 'Pattana Pragathi' for the progress of towns and cities, she recalled.

The minister pointed out that the government had released Rs 75 crore to all the municipalities in the state for providing the infrastructure. She suggested to the civic bodies to utilise the funds and keep cities and towns clean. She appealed to the people also to take responsibility for the success of the programme. Deputy Mayor Vikram Reddy and Commissioner Suman Corporators attended the meeting chaired by Mirpet Mayor Durga Deep Lal Chauhan.
