The first additional metropolitan session court on Wednesday sentenced an elderly man to 20-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a four and half a year old girl in October 2018. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000.
The 62-year-old labourer was found guilty under IPC section 376 AB and under the POCSO act. The elderly man lured the girl with chocolates while she was playing and took her to an isolated place and sexually assaulted her.
The girl's mother lodged a complaint with the police who arrested the man and produced before the court.
According to a Legal Support Officer, it is the first such punishment in Telangana after the criminal law ordinance came into force in April 2018.
