Karimnagar: Every drop of water is precious as the future of the people depends on availability of water. It is the responsibility of every person to conserve water, said Prof Umesh Kumar, Satavahana University Registrar.

He attended as a chief guest to the seminar on 'Conservation of water-Role of students' organised under the Darthi Bachavo Organisation at the varsity's pharmacy college in Karimnagar on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Umesh Kumar said water was the main source for the sustenance of mankind and without water there was no life. "Many countries in the world are facing acute shortage of water.

As many as 2 lakh people across the world are facing severe problems and are suffering with various kinds of diseases due to water shortage," he informed.

The United Nations had cautioned the countries against depleting water resources. Umesh Kumar felt that people are using water indiscriminately and if this continues, the next generations will have to suffer without water.

So, every person must have awareness about the importance of water and its resources and use it in judicial manner. Dharti Bachavo Organisation founder-president Mohmmad Azam said that people are drawing up water by digging several bore wells, thus lowering the ground water levels to a dangerous level.

Concrete buildings and cement roads in urban and semi-urban areas in towns and cities and lack of proper measures of harvesting of rain water have further worsening the situation, he stated.

Every drop of rain water must be harvested with proper planning by using of soak pits or percolation tanks. As part of our responsibility, the organisation is conducting 'Jala Chaitanya Sadassulu' to create awareness among the people , Azam added.
