Execution of mega infrastructure projects is challenging: HMRL MD
Addressing a team of 35 trainee IAS officers of Telangana cadre and Madhya Pradesh State Administrative Service at Metro Rail Bhavan today (Thursday), HMRL Managing Director NVS Reddy explained them the challenges involved in execution of mega infrastructure projects in Indian cities.
Hyderabad: Addressing a team of 35 trainee IAS officers of Telangana cadre and Madhya Pradesh State Administrative Service at Metro Rail Bhavan today (Thursday), HMRL Managing Director NVS Reddy explained them the challenges involved in execution of mega infrastructure projects in Indian cities.
In a power point presentation, he has shown them as to how several hurdles were overcome with innovative engineering solutions and management strategies in executing the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.
He advised the participants to develop their managerial capabilities and communication skills to tackle emotive and sensitive issues in execution of complex projects. Explaining as to how sensitive religious structures, stiff initial opposition to the project, acquisition of properties, innumerable court cases, etc., were deftly handled in the Metro Rail project, Mr. NVS Reddy stressed on the need for strategy, tact, hard work, patience and perseverance in removing the bottlenecks in execution of the project. Giving practical examples, he enlightened them as to how to motivate and inspire the team members to carry out such tough projects.
Reddy stated that Indian cities need to be made people friendly with better sidewalks/footpaths, non-polluting bicycles, pedestrian safety measures, greenery, quality public space, street furniture etc., and elaborated as to how the Urban Rejuvenation works being carried out by HMRL are transforming the streetscape of Hyderabad.
He informed them as to how the Hyderabad Metro project, which was initially written off by many experts as an impossible and jinxed project, is made a reality with enormous patience, perseverance, engineering excellence and tactful execution.
Explaining the unique features of Hyderabad Metro Rail which is the world's largest Metro Rail project in PPP mode and the innovations made by it in station design etc., Mr.NVS Reddy goaded the young officers to think out of box and come up with cost-effective solutions to the problems of common people.
