Nizamabad: District Collector M Rammohan Rao urged the farmers to take precautionary measures to prevent crop loss while addressing as a chief guest at Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) workshop on pests in cotton and maize at Pragati Bhavan here on Tuesday.
Rao said the Agriculture department needs to educate the farmers first which can reduce the cost of production. He instructed both Agricultural and Horticultural departments to coordinate with the farmers to ensure that crops are not affected.
He told the officials to upload the Farmer Integrated Survey as soon as possible and asked the agricultural officers to advise farmers to cultivate crops in a proper manner as there is less than normal rainfall in 22 mandals and to provide soil testing results to the farmers and advise them on the use of fertilisers. He urged the farmers to plant substitute crops in deficit rain conditions.
The Collector ordered the officials concerned to take action against illegal traders, who sell fake seeds and substandard fertilizers. He told the Agriculture department to rejuvenate farmers to achieve higher crop yields with less water usage. He requested to develop a cordial relationship between ATMA staff and the farmers and give them timely advice.
Collector MRM Rao had launched posters and leaflets to educate the farmers. The meeting was attended by DDA Mekala Govind, scientist Naveen, horticultural DD Narasimha Das, ADA, AOs and AEOs and others participated in the meeting.
