Mahbubnagar: The recently-revived Maddikhan Lake in Maddigatla village of Bhootpur mandal under Devarkadra constituency of Mahbubnagar district was inaugurated by Excise Minister Srinivas Goud and Devarkadra MLA Ala Venkateshwar Reddy on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Excise Minister said that the State government was committed to revive and reconstruct all water bodies and lakes in the State. Accordingly, check dams, lakes, major ponds and rivulets have been taken up for renovation in Devarkadra and elsewhere across erstwhile Mahbubnagar district.

"Very recently the MLA has inaugurated the Ukachettu and other check dams in Devarkadra. In addition to this, the oldest lake of Maddikhan is also being inaugurated today. This day is really a memorable one as we are proudly reviving our water bodies and ensuring to bring back those old days of prosperity in villages," said the Minister.

Later, the Minister along with the Devarkadra MLA released fishlings into the lake and urged the fishermen community to utilise the opportunity to improve their livelihood by rearing and marketing fish. "Prior to formation of Telangana, rearing fish was a distant dream for local fishermen as 90 per cent lakes had gone extinct because of wrong policies of earlier governments.

However, after the formation of Telangana, the TRS government had ensured that every section of society gets benefited from one or the other schemes of the government. The government is providing fishlings at 100 per cent subsidy to fishermen community. Now, it is their responsibly to utilise this government scheme and bring changes in their lives," said Ala Venkateshwar Reddy.
