FPOs game changers: Narsampet MLA

Narsampet (Warangal Rural): The State government was working for the welfare of the farmers, Narsampet MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy said.

Speaking at a review meeting here on Thursday, he emphasised the need for establishing Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) in every village. "Organising the farmers into FPOs could be a viable option to help the farmers in distress," he stated.

FPOs provide assistance to farmers in imparting better farm practices, he said. Collectivisation of input purchases, transportation and linkage with markets help farmers realise better price to their produce, the MLA said.

He mentioned that FPOs have become game changers in many villages. Farmers will be able to take more than two crops a year if they convert their waste land into fertile, recharging ground water, sapling of plants etc, he said, referring to the importance of FPOs. He said that FPOs will be able to fetch loans from NABARD so that to promote mechanisation of agriculture.

The MLA stated that farmers would be able to fetch better price for their produce by selling directly without the interference of middlemen.

Zilla Parishad Vice-Chairman Akula Srinivas, agriculture AD Srinivas, horticulture AD Srinivas Rao and AOs of six mandals were among others present.
