Gandhi's truth, non-violence still relevant today: Congress
All India Congress Committee general secretary and Telangana State in-charge RC Khuntia on Wednesday said that truth and non-violence, preached by Mahatma Gandhi, are quite relevant for the entire world.
Hyderabad: All India Congress Committee general secretary and Telangana State in-charge RC Khuntia on Wednesday said that truth and non-violence, preached by Mahatma Gandhi, are quite relevant for the entire world.
Addressing the Congress leaders and workers on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Bhavan, he said that Congress follows these principles scrupulously. He led a rally of the Congress leaders and workers from Charminar to Gandhi Bhavan, earlier.
Khuntia recalled that in 2006 Congress party, under the leadership of party interim chief Sonia Gandhi, has held an international seminar on truth and nonviolence. He said that Prime Ministers of several countries have attended it.
The AICC leader said that this has taken the Mahatma's principles all over the world and since then October 2 is observed all over the world with great reverence. He mentioned that nowadays few people have been claiming that they have brought international fame to Mahatma Gandhi.
Khuntia said that few people of the country still celebrate assassination of Mahatma. Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Gandhi, is still considered a hero by few people. But, there are people, who have constructed temples for the father of the nation, he mentioned. Leader of Congress in Assembly Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, former LOP in Assembly K Jana Reddy and others said that Gandhi means a principle and his life was ideal for all.
The programme was also attended by TPCC working president Ponnam Prabhakar, former president of PCC P Laxmaiah, former ministers Marri Shashidhar Reddy, J Geetha Reddy, MLA D Sridhar Babu, AICC secretaries Bose Raju and Srinivasan Krishnan, Telangana Youth Congress president Anil Kumar Yadav and others.
