Gang of 5 thieves arrested in Warangal

Warangal: The CCS Police on Friday arrested a five-member gang of thieves and seized gold and silver jewellery worth around Rs 5.5 lakh from them.

The arrested were identified as Kotagiri Sunil, Kotagiri Raju, Chette Prasad, Chette Suresh of Shayapet Haweli under Geesukonda mandal and Mekala Ramu of Oorugonda village under Damera mandal, all belonging to Warangal Rural district.

ACP (Crime) Babu Rao said that accused, who are all relatives to each other, used to meet and consume liquor regularly. In a bid to make easy money for their needs, the five turned thieves in 2005. The gang members who were involved in several theft cases were caught by police in the past.

The gang made away with gold jewellery from a house in Kazipet on July 5. During the investigation, the police who identified the gang kept a watch on them. The police arrested the gang when they were about to head to Hyderabad to sell the stolen jewellery. The Commissioner of Police V Ravinder commended CCS inspectors Raviraj, Srinivas Rao, Kazipet inspector Ajay Kumar and ASI Shiva Kumar who apprehended the gang.
