Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has come up with the Comprehensive Road Maintenance (CRM) program to improve the maintenance of roads in the city.

Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister K. Tarakarama Rao chaired a review meeting today along with Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan at Secretariat. During the meeting, Minister KTR talked about the Comprehensive Road Maintenance (CRM) program and its importance.

Earlier, laying of new roads, identifying damaged roads, filling of potholes, making estimations and allocation of works were taken care of by different wings under the GHMC, which led to coordination challenges.

To address these challenges, the GHMC has initiated the CRM program, under which a total of 709 kilometres of Hyderabad roads will be maintained. The CRM program is aimed at providing better quality roads to the citizens.

The main roads of Hyderabad city will be divided into eight units to take up maintenance works on a war footing.

For a term of five years, the tenders will be called for, by the GHMC for road maintenance by working agencies. From laying of roads to maintenance, from building footpaths to cleaning and maintenance of greenery, the agency will be responsible for the complete maintenance of the roads.

The agencies will also take up the necessary digging and relaying works, for which they shall take permissions from HMWSSB and TRANSCO departments, six months in advance. This will improve road infrastructure maintenance and work standards.

Constant monitoring of the quality of works done by agencies would be taken up by GHMC.

Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, MA&UD Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar, GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar, Joint Commissioners, and Engineering staff participated in today's meeting.
