Girls beware, predators on prowl in every form of social media
According to She Team police, over 650 cases were registered till August this year
Hyderabad: With the dating culture increasingly catching up with the youth in Hyderabad city, it turns out to be a torment for girls. The high number of cases registered by the She Team police shows the gravity of the situation.
According to She Team police, over 650 cases were registered till August this year. Majority of cases were registered under SR Nagar police station limits where majority of boys' and girls' hostels are located.
The South Zone, which includes Old City, too, is not lagging behind. More than 450 cases were booked against private employees, students and businessmen. Over 200 cases were also registered against the government employees, doctors, engineers, labourers, drivers and on others.
The girls who are hyperactive on Facebook and WhatsApp are being targeted. After getting the personal information about the girls, the men on the prowl resort to mischief of giving missed calls to the girls.
They trap the girls after the latter respond to their missed calls. If the girls respond positively to the missed calls, the mischief-makers would start moving closely with the girls and obtain their nude pictures.
Then the real trouble begins. The mischief-makers threaten to upload the nude pictures on social media and start blackmail the girls, the police said.
The girls and sometimes the women too, approach the SHE Teams only after falling into the trap of the mischief-makers. According to SHE Teams, majority of cases are those involving break-up of lovers.
In some cases, boys are booked for harassing their ex-girlfriends after the latter break up with them and start moving with new boyfriends. In such cases, the ex-boyfriends threaten their ex-girlfriends that they would upload the pictures of the girls on social media.
This category of cases amount 70 per cent. The SHE Teams take such cases as a challenge and solve majority of them. Though the repeat offenders are just one per cent, the harassment the girls suffer from them is unimaginable.
