Government to build 1 lakh crop drying platforms across Telangana
- The farm produce drying platforms will be constructed in all 32 districts under MGNREGS at the cost of ` 750 crore
- The government issues orders and guidelines in this regard
Hyderabad: Government will construct about one lakh farm produce drying platforms in 32 districts of the State for the benefit of the farmers with a cost of Rs 750 crores in this year under the MGNREGS.
The Panchayat Raj and Rural Development department has issued an order in this regard. The department also issued guidelines for the construction of them. According to officials, the drying platforms should be taken up on the lands of SHG member or farmer under MGNREGS during the year 2020-21 in each village. They could be taken up by individual SHG member or farmer on his own land.
There would be no beneficiary contribution for SC and ST farmers and 10 per cent beneficiary contribution is required for farmers of other sections. They would be of three types, first one with a width of 538 square feet, second one with 645 square feet width and third one with 807 square feet.
The cost of 530 sq ft platform has been pegged at Rs 56,000, it would be Rs 68,000 for 645 sq ft platform and it would be Rs 85,000 for the 807 sq ft platform. The payments would be made to the beneficiary in two installments based on the progress of the works.
District Collectors have been directed to give wide publicity to this facility and encourage farmers to file applications to the mandal parishad development officer at mandal level or agriculture extension officer at the cluster level. The MPDO and the Agriculture Officer, along with the assistant project officer of MGNREGS should prepare a consolidated list of such applications and take up field verification, check land availability and obtain consent of the individual landowner after visiting the site. District Collectors would make mandal and village wise allocation based on demand and population of farmers. They are requested to conduct the lottery (on need basis) to decide the list of beneficiaries in case number of applications is more than the allocation.
After identification of beneficiary, field officers should visit the village, take pre-measurement of the site, generate estimates and issue work commencement order and get the work executed by the farmer or SHG member.
The construction of platforms should be taken up as per the designs being approved by the PR and RD department. The department has released the design with the specifications.
