Health sector sees spike in TS budget allocation

Hyderabad: Budget for Health sector saw a 8.6 percent increase in 2020-21 budget compared to the previous year. Rs 6,186 crore was allocated to Health, Medical and Family Welfare department as against Rs 5,694 crore in 2019-20 budget.

The establishment expenditure and scheme expenditure projections saw a small increase. Rs 3,824 crore has been earmarked as establishment expenditure as against Rs 3705 crore in the last budget.

Likewise, Rs 2, 362 crore is the projection for scheme expenditure for the coming financial year compared to Rs 1,989 crore in 2019-20.

The state is expecting Rs 999 crore for centrally sponsored schemes which mostly go to Health and Family Welfare wing.

If we look at key highlights, Allocations increased for KCR Kits (from 307 crore to 329 crore in this budget), 104 ( Rs 15 crore to 36 crore), free mortuary service (Rs 2 to 5 crore).

108 emergency service got a same allocation of Rs 49 crore (similar to last year) and so does Employee and Journalist Health Schemes ( over Rs 410 crore).

At the same time, no allocations were made for construction of new medical colleges and hospitals, no fund for epidemic control schemes, no allocations were made for up-gradation of PHC andbv there was no contingency fund for PHCs and CHCs.

Also, allocations were made for research, machinery, equipment and contingency fund in DME.
