JAC convenor leads 'Youm-E-Ehtejaj' on Sunday

Chaderghat: Scores of activists from different parts of the City, including women were rounded up by the police for taking out protests against NPR (National Population Register) and CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) on Sunday. They were protesting against the denial of permission by police for the women's sit-in protest at Dharna Chowk, even after the High Court directions.

Following a call given by the JAC against alleged 'partisan attitude', several youth and women at different locations came on roads for protesting against the proposed NPR which will be begin from April. They raised slogans against the State government and police attitude, while recalling the promise made by the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for passing an Assembly resolution against CAA on the lines of several other Chief Ministers like West Bengal and Kerala.

Heavy security was deployed at Dharna Chowk and many other major junctions across the city before taking several protesters into custody. Social activists who were leading the protests in Malakpet, Chaderghat, Moghalpura, besides JAC convener Mushtaq Malik were taken into preventive custody. The JAC leader was picked up from his office in Azampura and was shifted to Osmania University police station. Even as the police detained Mushtaq Malik, several protesters and JAC members raised slogans against the TS government and police attitude by chanting 'police zulm band karo' 'Telangana government murdabad'.

Another member of JAC, Moulana Mohammed Naseeruddin was placed under house arrest in Saidabad. Activists Salahuddin Affan, Syed Bilal, Mohammed Omer and others were also detained at Saidabad.

Earlier on Saturday, while substantiating the Youm-E-Ehtejaj (Day of Protest) the JAC convener alleged that Hyderabad police was acting in a partisan manner by denying permission for peaceful protest. "Although Telangana High court has directed the Hyderabad police to consider the JAC's application, the police has once again denied permission on flimsy grounds", added Mushtaq Malik.

Mushtaq Malik informed that, after hearing the writ petition of Justice T Vinod Kumar, the High Court directed the Hyderabad police to consider the application of JAC for holding a peaceful sit-in protest. "Although JAC is giving an undertaking with the police officials to hold peaceful protests, but citing various reasons the police are denying the permission," said Mushtaq Malik.

It may be mentioned here that JAC's application for protest has been rejected on several occasions, compelling the leadership to approach High Court. They were hopeful of police permission following Court's intervention earlier this month. In a desperate move the JAC gave call to public to observe 'Youm-e-Ehtejaj' against the rejection of police permission to hold a day long women's sit-in protest at Dharna Chowk on February 16.
