Hyderabad: The Bhartiya Janata Party has put the responsibility of galvanising the rank and file of the state unit so that it can take on the state government and emerge as a considerable force by the time the state goes for next elections on Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay. The party high command had selected Sanjay for his leadership qualities and abilities in political management. Sanjay has been a Rashtriya Swayam Sevak activist from his school days.

The 49-year-old leader had always maintained a low profile in the party and confined his political activity to his own district of Karimnagar until he was elected as MP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Prior to becoming an MP, he was also elected as a corporator. He was also elected one of Directors of District Central Cooperative Bank (DCCB) from 1994 to 2003. He held the posts of state BJP vice-president, national executive member and party in-charge to Tamil Nadu and Kerala in his 25-year political life.

By selecting Sanjay, BJP sent a clear message that it was a party that gives due respect to BCs. Party leaders say that the rhetoric skills and strong RSS roots will be an added advantage for Sanjay to reactivate the rank and file in the State.

Leaders said that Sanjay was well acquainted with the aspirations of the people. During past two decades, the BJP state chiefs were chosen from among the leaders of Hyderabad. Himachal Pradesh Governor Dattatreya, Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy and Laxman were all the leaders groomed from Hyderabad city. With his rural background and vast political experience in the district politics, the party feels, will be a big advantage for Sanjay in taking on the TRS.

Sources said that Sanjay will strictly adhere to the political agenda set by the party high command. The first litmus test for Sanjay would be the GHMC elections in 2021. By that time Sanjay will have to revive the BJP and give a tough fight.
