Hyderabad: Alleging that the Union government and Railway Ministry were acting inhumanily and mercilessly towards sending the migrant workers to their native places, the State Planning Board vice chairman B Vinod Kumar on Tuesday said that Telangana government paid Rs 6 crore to the Railways as transportaton charges.

The Planning Board vice chairman said that there was no truth in the claims of the Central government that it was providing 85 per cent expenditure to transport migrants to their native places. "Generally there will be 72 seats in a rail bogie and for maintaining physical distance only 54 passengers are allowed. The Centre is giving compensation to 18 seats and talking more. The Union ministers were misleading people with their lies," said Vinod Kumar.

The TRS leader said that the fares collected from the migrants were same even before the corona. For example, the ticket price from Ghatkesar to Jasidih Junction is Rs 675 during normal days but the Railways collected same amount from the migrants, said Vinod Kumar. The Telangana government provided Rs 6 crore and operated 63 trains transporting 85,273 migrants to their native places, he added.
