Nampally: Balala Hakkula Sangham (BHS) filed a petition urging the Human Rights Commission to instruct the state government to recognize orphans living in government and private orphanages as Indian citizens and issue identity cards.

Speaking to the media after filing the petition, Achyut Rao, the founder of Balala Hakkula Sangham, said most of orphans living various orphanages in the state do not have Aadhaar, birth certificates or any identity cards. He alleged that most of the private orphanages were collecting donations from people citing lack of funds.

He demanded that the government take control of such orphanages and expedite the process of child adoption. He urged the state government to implement foster parenting method and ensure that orphans live family atmosphere. Achut Rao said that HRC had deferred the case to March 3 to get further information from the state.
