Hyderabad: The Municipal Administration Department is on a spree of opening new link roads in the city. On Monday, MAUD Minister K T Rama Rao inaugurated four link roads to facilitate smooth flow of traffic in different areas in twin cities.

These roads were developed by the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation in association with GHMC and HMDA covering a total distance of 3.67kms at a cost of Rs 33.80 crore. According to officials, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development department will soon open another 33 link roads by July-end.

KTR had directed the HRDCL, GHMC and HMDA to develop link roads for easing traffic congestion on major thoroughfares. Following this, 137 link roads were identified by the authorities. This will help in reducing the distance for motorists by 126.2 kms.

In the first phase, HRDCL took up development of 37 link roads. An estimate of Rs 313.6 crore was prepared to develop road connectivity, which will reduce around 44.67 kilometres. The four link roads opened on Monday are part of these roads.

Expressing happiness, KTR in a tweet said, "My compliments to the team of GHMC & particularly HRDCL (Hyderabad Road Development Corpn Ltd) led by CE Vasantha on utilising the lockdown period effectively & building much needed missing link/slip roads."

However, while inaugurating the link roads, the Minister, Mayor and other officials failed to maintain social distancing.
