Hyderabad: GHMC drivers turn temporary employees in RTC to earn more money

The TSRTC strike has shown its effect on GHMC as several drivers working in the organisation have joined as temporary drivers to earn more money. With the GHMC drivers joining as drivers, garbage picks up from transfer stations has suffered for the last three days.
Around 500 trucks, 2500 swachh auto-trolleys are being run daily by 18,000 workers in the GHMC to collect the garbage and waste in its 30 circles.
After the government announced its decision of running the buses with private drivers, around 50 per cent of the drivers has evaded their duties at GHMC and joined as private drivers in RTC. As a result, garbage has been piled up at the transport stations and it even turned worse on Sunday as 2,500 Swacch auto-trolleys were not picked up from households.
The GHMC drivers are paid Rs 800 to Rs 1000 as daily wages for 12 hours while the government is paying Rs 1500 to Rs 2000 wage for eight hours in RTC.
