Hyderabad: JBS-MGBS Metro line flagged off by CM KCR

Secunderabad: The JBS-MGBS Metro corridor in Hyderabad was inaugurated by the Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao here on Friday. The length of this corridor includes nine stations and is a 11-km stretch. With the opening of the Corridor II, commuters would be able to reach MGBS from JBS in 16 minutes. Soon after the inauguration, the CM along with other dignitaries including Minister of MA & UD KT Rama Rao, Telangana Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Deputy Speaker Padma Rao Goud, L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd MD & CEO KVB Reddy, Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL) MD NVS Reddy and others took a ride till MGBS in 11 minutes. However, once the services begin from 6 am Saturday, the distance would be covered in 16 minutes, said HMR officials. By road, it takes about 40-45 minutes.

The length of this corridor is 11 km. The JBS-MGBS corridor has nine stations which include Parade Grounds, Secunderabad West, Gandhi Hospital, Musheerabad, RTC Crossroads, Chikkadpally, Narayanguda, Sultan Bazaar and MGBS. The JBS-MGBS route is part of the corridor II from JBS to Falaknuma.

With this, the metro has completed phase I of the project. The total length of the Hyderabad Metro Rail is now 69 km. MP Asaduddin Owaisi expressed his displeasure with the HMRL for not starting the services to the Old City. In the plans, it was proposed to connect Darulshifa to Falaknuma.

JBS an engineering marvel

JBS Parade Ground station is located next to the second-largest bus terminus in the city. This station is one of the tallest stations of Hyderabad Metro with five levels namely street, lower concourse, upper concourse, lower platform and upper platform levels. The Station is designed as a portal frame type RCC structure with columns on either side of the road and one in the central median. Also, more than 150 CCTV cameras are installed for surveillance.

MGBS station uniquely built

Spread over 3 lakh square feet, Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) interchange metro station is one of the largest metro railway stations in the country with several special features. Uniquely built, it houses the interchange between Corridors I & II with three levels with each, again split into two, as one corridor passes over the other. All the passenger-friendly facilities are seamlessly integrated to enable easy and smooth transit from one corridor to the other.

9 stations on 11-km stretch; Service open to public from 6 am today

• The 11 km Corridor II – Green Line featuring 9 stations connects the twin cities of Secunderabad with Hyderabad at MGBS

• Addition of this line is expected to reduce travel time to just 16 minutes end-to-end as against 45 minutes by road
