Commission asks govt to submit their reply by March 19

Nampally: Representatives of Telangana Muscular Dystrophy Victims Association met the state human rights commission on Wednesday and filed a petition seeking government help. The chairman of HRC Justice Chandraiah and member of the commission had to come out of the office to receive the petition as the victims of the disease could not enter HRC office.

Speaking to the chairman and members of the commission, president of the association A Venkat Reddy said that the state government had not been providing adequate help to them. Venkat Reddy explained the difficult conditions faced by them due to the congenital disorder.

Due to muscle dystrophy, they cannot carry out any physical work and they constantly need caretakers, for which they have to spend more than Rs 10,000 per month for each person. He said that there are 3,250 patients of the disease in the state and were leading difficult lives. He urged the commission to instruct the state government to give an allowance FOR Rs 10,000 per month.

Responding to their request, the HRC chairman instructed the Principal Secretary of Women and Child Welfare and Disabled Welfare departments to submit a report before March 19 on their status.
