Hyderabad: Telangana Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy said that the change in the existing guidelines by the Centre is needed to give a fillip to waste to power from the municipal waste.

Responding during the question hour in the State Legislative Council, Here on Monday, he said that currently, out of the total sanctioned project of 76 MW, plants are operating with a capacity of 19.8 MW. So far the State has commission 38.4 MW projects in Telangana, he added.

He pointed out that currently the tariff is determined by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC). Accordingly, per Kwh for MSW based power project (mass burning) the rate fixed was Rs 5.90 paise.

Similarly, for RDF (Refused Derived Fuel) based power projects. he said that the rate fixed per Kwh stands at 7.84 paise, he said. The minister said that the power tariff is fixed considering the investment and cost of production.

However, the components like transportation and others are not factored in finalising the power tariff. But, the State will have to follow the guidelines of the Centre regarding the commission of the projects. And, there is a need to bring changes to the current guidelines.
